Christ Serve Programs
In 2006 Lutheran Island Camp received a grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to establish a program of youth involvement in community service projects. To date nearly 70 young people have received extensive training in leadership, problem solving, communication, and leadership dynamics. In addition Lutheran Island Camp has established a tradition of providing Christ Serve opportunities for young people from around the country.
Christ Serve Leadership Training provides youth with a unique opportunity to be trained in leadership skills , then put those skills into practice. Young people who would like to someday be on staff at Lutheran Island Camp should attend this program. We seek to identify, inspire, develop, and train young leaders for life-long service in the church and in their communities.
Dates: June 8-13 3:00 p.m. Friday through Wednesday at Noon. Friday and Saturday will be spent participating in Junior Counselor training. There is no additional cost for JC Training
Ages: 14 and older
Rate: $150 (the cost of the camp is underwritten by donors to Lutheran Island Camp)

Building the Island
We’re building on the Island again. Participants will help with a variety of building projects, staining and painting, waterfront work, and clearing trails. We plan to do some renovation work on our Education and Retreat Center. The property is purchased!!! Be a part of the first groups to visit Christ Serve Ranch. There are all sorts of projects that need to be done. The first Creation-Science Environmental Learning Center in the nation will be located at Christ Serve Ranch. Help build trails, observation decks and shelters, develop scientific experiments, remove brush and trees, build corrals and docks. Participants will have a greater understanding of our Creator God and how we can use Genesis to better grasp the significance of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. We are looking for at least one group to help us get our Horse Outreach Program ready for the summer of 2012. Participants will help groom horses, clean-up our tack, build campsites, clear trails, and generally help us get the horses ready. There will be at least an hour or two of riding each day. The cost is higher because of more travel, offsite meals, and horseback riding.
We will have Bible study, devotions around the campfire, and our head wrangler will share God’s gift of creation as demonstrated through the horses and natural surroundings the servants will experience. They will also come to understand the importance of our Horse Outreach Program to several hundred youth who participate in it. Dates and Rates: June 5-10 (Tuesday-Sunday) $375 (increased cost covers additional transportation and horseback riding. |

| Inger Native American Servant Events |
| Travel to Inger, Minnesota and spend the week working with Native children and families. Participants will lead children, youth and families in games, activities, Bible Study, and devotions. We will also do community service projects with the Native community. It is a great 5 day event that brings back people year after year. If your group is interested, sign up early. We are limited to the number of people we can bring with us. Individuals are also welcome. |

Those campers with a little more riding experience will want to take advantage of this week! Wrangler Horse camp offers more time in the saddle than the Tenderfoot version, plus you ride on more advanced trails, camp out one night with your horse, and experience what you and a good horse can do with some gaming. Our Rustic week will provide a weeklong camping experience for the participants that will rival the wild west. Ages: 12 and older Dates: #1-July 1-6 (Rustic) # 2-July 15-20 # 3-July 29-August 3 (Rustic) # 4 August 12-17. Cost: $435

“BANG!”“Whoosh!”“Wow!” Science can be exciting at Lutheran Island Camp. Our Young Scientist Program uses science to better understand God’s creation and the universe that surrounds us. Join other photographers and artists who have a special desire to learn how to capture God’s magnificent creation through their art. Led by a professional photographer, you’ll see nature as it gives birth, blooms, takes to the sky, and brings forth beauty. Participants will help us by taking photos at Christ Serve Ranch that will be used on websites, in brochures, and on Facebook. Some photos may also be used for our Creation Book of Treasures. You'll have some great fishing stories to tell after this week! Each year we catch large Northerns, several 4 lb. and better bass, walleye, giant crappies, and a couple of nice Muskies . We expect you to know fishing, be willing to learn more, and bring your own equipment. We'll travel to several lakes and fish at different times of the day. Whether you want to be an actor, a comedian, a vocalist, a musician or someone who works behind the scenes you'll want to join us for our Performing Arts Camp. By the end of the week, we'll have a variety show that will highlight each of your God given talents. And don't forget all of the other great camp activities available at the Island.

You'll have the time of your life exploring some of the most stunning country Minnesota has to offer! We begin the adventure Sunday at Lutheran Island Camp, learning how and what to pack for a trip into the wilderness. Very early Monday we leave for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area to enjoy the remainder of the week in the wilderness. Registration is limited. Because we will camp as two separate groups, campers who wish to be together all week must indicate this on their registration forms.

A great adventure for youth who want the opportunity to try out their canoeing and kayaking skills on one of the most beautiful rivers in Minnesota. The Crow Wing River Trip provides a great time of fishing, camping, and outdoor fun. Participants will arrive at camp on Sunday, leave Monday morning and return to camp on Thursday.

If you are 15 or older (14 and attended Christ Serve Leadership) and completed your sophomore year, consider spending a week or two at camp as a Junior Counselor. You’ll need to apply and be accepted or attend Christ Serve Leadership. The Junior Counselor Training will begin Friday evening and wrap-up Saturday after supper. Those registered for Christ Serve Leadership will attend JC Training and then stay on for Christ Serve Leadership. Ages:15 and older (14 if a Christ Serve Leadership participant) Dates: June 8-9 Cost:$50
