![]() Our mission is to support the ministry of proclaiming and confessing Jesus Christ by nourishing the spiritual growth of those we serve, strengthening their service in Christ's name. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. Psalm 14:1 |

Building New Bridges
One of the first challenges that faced the founders of Lutheran Island Camp was how to get people safely on and off the island. A sandbar was present and the previous owners had built it up with some gravel and rocks in order to get cattle across. But high water and mud could make access a challenge.
In 1950 farmers from up and down the Red River Valley brought their grain trucks to camp. Area farmers donated thousands of pounds of field rock. Rocks were laid on the shifting sands of the sandbar until they were 4-6 feet above the water. Then dirt and gravel were hauled in until the roadway was passable. The Causeway was built and with it came the means for thousands of campers to come and go.
That bridge between the mainland and the island became the means for sharing the Good News with campers from around the world. The Causeway is not known for its beauty, nor as an engineering marvel, nor is it especially inspirational, but we would not be able to do any of the things we do here at camp without it.
Many of those who built the original bridge have been called home. There are still those who remember fondly the stories of those days or who were old enough to help but young enough to still be with us.
Today each of us has an opportunity to be a part of building the new causeways and bridges that will nurture the next generation of God's people. We can do that by volunteering at camp and the new Creation-Science Environmental Learning Center. We can do that by praying for God's continued guidance and blessing. And, we can provide, through our gifts, the "stones" that will be needed to bring those who want and need to come to Lutheran Island Camp and Christ Serve Ranch.
