Greetings in Christ!

Somewhere we heard that we have now had 10 or 11 straight days with snowfall and that we may have two more storms this week. It is absolutely beautiful at the Island with plenty of snow coating the trees, roads, and paths. Marvin has been busy keeping things open and ready to go for tubing, skiing, broomball and plenty of indoor activities. God is already blessing 2011 with numerous events and participants and new programs. Come on out and enjoy your Island.

We are blessed to be able to host another Three Crosses Bible Study next week with Brian Young. Please include this information in your bulletin: Three Crosses Bible Study

Alumni update: (We’d love to hear from you. Go to our website and look for the alumni page.)

Christine Peterson-Borscheid:

Please share with us one or more of your favorite memories at Lutheran Island Camp.

My favorite memories involve the many life-time friends I met at camp. Somehow even cleaning windows and bathrooms at the close of camp was enjoyable because of the friends you got to work with along the way.

Please feel free to share a personal update with other alumni in the space below.

I met my husband, Chad Peterson aka Gilligan at camp. I am currently a pharmacist at the University of Minnesota, Fairview. My husband and I joke that we have a four legged child, named "Petey." He has been a wonderful, sensitive, loving, and joyful addition to our home.

As we’ve told you in a previous e-news we anticipate a larger number of participants for our Servant Events in 2011 (another group confirmed today). To help us accomplish the projects we need, here is the first installment of Servant event needs: Safety Goggles, ear

plugs, chain saws, work gloves, lumber for observation towers, decks, and docks: circular saw, tape measures, level, square, cordless sawsall, splitting maul, shovels, and pruning shears.

If you haven’t signed up yet, we still have room for people for our Teen Trek Extravaganza. Give us a call to get your group signed up or come as an individual youth.

On-line registration for Summer 2011 events is now available. We encourage use of our on-line registration. It is a secure way to make sure you get registered right away for a summer event. We do have a few family events that are not yet available for on-line registration. We are working on putting many of our Retreat Season events on the list that you can register for on-line.

Last year we asked congregations and individuals to set aside Valentine’s Day as a time to give thanks for camp and to encourage people to give toward camperships for the coming summer. That effort was wonderfully successful and provided us with enough money to offset costs for nearly 100 campers last summer. This year our “I Love A Camper” effort will take place on Sunday, February 13th. We’ll have promotion material available very soon.

MAWFCA: We were very blessed with a large group of checks and pledges that arrived at the end of the year at the District Office. Our Make A World For Christ Appeal office deposited over $57,000. We are blessed with well over $330,000 in pledges and cash now. Thank you to the congregations that have now completed or are working on campaigns. We pray that if your congregation hasn’t been trained yet, you’ll contact us to attend an upcoming training event. Or we will be happy to provide a training session just for your congregation.

Here at camp we were so blessed during the month of December with a total of $37,000 in gifts. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who shared God’s blessings. Included with designated gifts for the chapel, camperships, the horse program and restricted gifts for Christ Serve Ranch. A special thank you to First Lutheran in Eldred for their wonderful gift toward Christ Serve Ranch as well as the large contribution for ongoing needs at camp.

Question and Answer:

Question: Are there any discounts this year? Answer: Yes, we have discounts for early registration and for families. We also have a discount for past campers who sign up early. To find out more, go to:
