Greetings in Christ!
Bitter cold again today with a wind chill of 25 below zero – Are you ready for spring and summer? Take a look at the 2011 Lutheran Island Camp summer brochure and get a picture of what a great summer can look like. We are Reflecting His Light in 2011!
This past weekend was another great weekend with lots of young people at camp. We had several confirmation groups as well as a youth group from Plymouth. The snow is just about perfect for activities at camp. The tubing hill, broomball, and cross country skiing are great. Plan now to attend an event soon.
Coming up this weekend is our annual Winter Adventure. We have a good turnout expected with groups from around the state. We do still have some additional room. Plans include the first use of our horse drawn sleigh!
Polar Plunge weekend should be lots of fun! We’re predicting that the water will be just above 32 degrees when nearly 60 people take their plunge on Saturday the 26th of February. In addition to an excellent Bible study and devotions, participants will be heading to Thumper Pond Water Park.
Also happening on the 26th will be a special benefit for the Mark Moldenhauer family. It will be held at Trinity Lutheran in Long Prairie. Mark and Allison are both former staff members at camp. Mark as a significant issue with his brain which caused debilitating pain and now has caused him to seek treatment in Texas. You can get more information at our home page: www.islandcamp.org .
The Men’s Retreat is just a couple of weeks away. We are pleased to announce that several groups have once again challenged others to a chili cook-off during our Men’s Retreat. Once again there will be an excellent program which this year will be held in our remodeled and winterized chapel. In addition there will be lots of great activities inside and outside including broomball, fishing, skiing, and much more
Summer 2011 highlight: The Biggest -Our July 17-22 week will be a week of “The Biggest”. Our goal is to have the biggest week of camp in recent history. We want 200 or more campers. Those that will participate will be: making the biggest sandcastle, playing the biggest volleyball game, eating the biggest banana split, making the biggest smiley face, having the biggest beach party, playing the biggest game of dodge ball, having the biggest watermelon seed spitting contest, and lots more of the biggest activities. For ages 8-11 and 12
14.
Alumni: Faith Fretham – Counselor 2009 Tell us how God has worked through camp in your life.
Through teaching campers about Christ, my own faith grew immensely. It gave me the strength to go back to college at the end of the summer and hold strong to my faith because I knew there were other people like me in the world fighting the good fight for Christ.
During the month of February, the unrestricted and I Love A Camper gifts we receive will be directed toward camperships and providing assistance for youth and families to come to camp. We call that effort the I Love A Camper appeal.
Question and Answer Question: Do you do Family Reunions at Camp? Answer: Yes, we have several scheduled for this summer and even one already scheduled for 2012. We provide housing, meals, facilities, Bible studies, devotions, and a whole host of other activities. We’ll work with your family to provide a great experience for all.
