February 2, 2016

Greetings from beautiful Lutheran Island Camp!

We were very excited to be informed that Lutheran Island Camp has received a $25,000 grant from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod! Many of you who were in attendance at the Christ Serve Ranch heard us talk about Christ Serve Academy as the outreach endeavor for us to serve parochial schools, homeschool families, as well as other families who want their children to have the ability to learn science from a Lutheran, Christian, Biblical Worldview. That is what Christ Serve Academy will do and the grant from synod helps us move forward. The grant does require a “match” which we will begin to work on right away. Praise God for His blessings through our church.

This weekend we hosted two confirmation retreats and the Winter Adventure. Mild temps made for a great weekend!  This weekend we have another confirmation group coming in.

Men’s Retreatis coming up February 19-21. Still plenty of time to get registered.  You can register online or by mailing or calling your registration in.

We continue to schedule our Registration Jamborees. Let us know if you would like to have one.  Registrations are starting to come in. Online registration seems to be a popular way to sign up and only takes a few minutes.

And don't forget all of the other great camp activities available at the Island.

We continue to look for good horses and saddles and other tack equipment. If you have a family horse or two that is no longer being used or saddles, brushes, and other equipment, give us a call.

Junior Counselors and Teen Servantscan now begin signing up for training and for the weeks that they want to serve at camp. There is a link on our home page.

Another reminder for college students that we are now accepting applications for our summer staff positions. Positions range include, maintenance, lifeguard, summer counselors, outreach staff, kitchen, and assistant wranglers.

Volunteer opportunities will be available this summer for adults. These may include working at the Ranch or at Camp. Opportunities range from working in the office and camp store to cutting wood and clearing trails as well as some minor construction. We will also be looking for expertise in gardening, mushrooms, log buildings, science experiments, nursing, outdoor education, driving bus, fishing and many more.  We have 4 trailer or RV sites available at the Ranch for those who might want to bring their own lodging. You can help for a few hours or for the entire summer. Give us a call or email us at info@islandcamp.org.

Question and Answer:

Question:Do kids have to clean their own fish at fish camp?

Answer:This year a few more of our programs will have fishing as an activity. Almost all of our fishing activities are catch and release. Once is a while campers in our Fishing Camps (these are camps where fishing is done every day) decide they want a fish fry, so they clean fish.  We never force a child to do something they would be uncomfortable with.
